B&E Trailer Training
If you have passed your test since 1997 you will have limited rights to tow trailers.you can pull a 750kg trailer, unbraked. if your trailer has brakes it must weigh less than your vehicle and the combined gross weights for both must be less than 3500kg. Confused, yes then feel free to give me a ring to discuss your individual situation.

The B&E Test
The actual test is based upon the current test for HGV drivers and as such can only be taken at an LGV Test Centre, our nearest one being Peterborough. The test will last approx 75 to 90 minutes and takes the following format.
-
Meet and greet where your licence and eyesight will be checked. You need to provide both parts of your licence, plastic card and paper countersheet.
-
Vehicle questions. on the way to your vehicle the examiner will ask questions about your vehicle and trailer, no real hardships here as I will give full training on the questions
-
Off road reverse. The first part of the test is an off road reverse manouvere, once again no real problems here. We can practice the reverse for as many times as you need to feel comfortable, and as I use a small car and twin axle trailer, it is quite easy to teach you the reference points to make this exercise painless.
-
Off road controlled stop. The examiner will want to see tht you can stop the vehicle and trailer in a controlled manner, and once again this is not as daunting as it sounds. it is done off road at a speed of 20mph, and once again we can practice it untill you are completely satisfied.
-
Road drive. Once you have finished the above you will mormally go for your road drive, lasting just under an hour. The examiner will be looking for excellent vehicle control during this drive, with great consideration for other road users. You will encounter a whole variety of roads on the drive, from Dual carraigeways, Spiralling roundabouts, mini roundabouts, pedestrian crossings, city centre work, and housing estates. This is the hardest part of the test, but once again we can practice until you are competant, and you can also practice on your own in your own vehicle when going about your every day travels. If you live locally to Peterborough you can print the routes off from the internet and familiarise yourself with them in your own time.
- Nearly finished, The un-couple and re-couple. When you return to the test centre you will need to show the examiner that you can safely couple and uncouple your trailer. There is a set proceedure for this that takes away any mysteries, and you will be pleased to know you can pull the trailer onto the vehicle, once again an eaasy task with my small trailer.
How am I different from the competition?
firstly a lot of the schools providing this training are VAT registered concerns, not a problem if your boss is paying, but a worthy consideration if you cannot reclaim the VAT. for your B+E Test.
Vehicle and Trailer. I provide both vehicle and trailer for all your training and the B+E test, all included in the price.
Some companies only provide the trailer, you having to provide your own vehicle and fuel, which brings along complications of insurance, vehicle suitability and of course cost. Others I understand may rent you a trailer at extra cost, mine is all inclusive.
The vehicle I use is an air conditioned Renault Clio car and a small Ifor Williams tandem axle trailer, which is very easy to drive, and less cumbersome than the vans that other companies may provide.
Refreshments. Yes it is a long hard day and we will need a coffee and probably a snack to get us through the day. As Les Britton school of Motoring, I am what it say on the can, and will provide refreshments at no cost to you.
Do I need the test?
B&E entitlement is a rather complicated affair and before I can give you a firm answer i would need to see both your veicle, trailer and log book to confirm. Easiest way is to phone me on 07859 940366 to arrange a get together and discuss your needs and requirements.
I can provide a two hour assesment drive at this stage to enable us then to tailor a training package specific to your needs. I do not beleive in dragging a course out to merely fill my diary, and as such offer the course I feel will most meet you needs.
